“Canto, río, con tus aguas” poem by Rafael Alberti, music by Vasco Pereira. Rita Moldão presents this emotionally rich song in her 2018 recital at the Casa de Valencia in Madrid, Spain.
Vasco M.N. Pereira, Composer
Vasco is a native of Portugal and lives near the Spanish border. He finds inspiration in works of Portuguese and Spanish poets and has set many of their poems to music.
Vasco’s composition “Canto, río, contus aguas” (I sing, river, with your waters) captures the emotion of the lyrics. The poem speaks of the flowing river’s ability to cry, scream, laugh and sing. The singer chooses to be like the river and refuses to be like unfeeling stone.
